Beware:
- THERE ARE OFTEN NO SYMPTOMS FOR MONTHS OR YEARS
- Only about 25% of women and 50% of men have symptoms.
- After having had Chlamydia, the risc of getting HIV is higher
Symptoms for women include:
- increase in vaginal discharge
- pain or burning when urinating
- pain during sex and/or bleeding after sex
- bleeding between periods and/or heavier periods
- pain, discharge or bleeding in the anus
Symptoms for men include:
- a white, cloudy or watery discharge from the penis
- pain or burning when urinating
- pain and/or swelling in the testicles pain, discharge or bleeding in the anus
Contagion:
- Sex without condom / sharing sex toys / viginal-/oral-/anal sex or get semen-/vaginal fluid in your eye / from pregnant woman to unborn baby àcan affect baby’s eyes and cause pneumonia
Treatment
- Treated with antibiotics
- Tell recent sexual partner/s so they can also get tested and treated.
- It is important to be retested after two months
- Make sure your sexual partners are properly tested and take the medication, too. Not having any symptoms doesn’t mean they don’t have the infection
- You will need to avoid sexual contact for a week after all partners have been treated
Consequences
- inablity to get pregnant (tubes that carry fertilised eggs from the ovaries to the uterus), preventing an egg from travelling from the ovary to the womb.
Medical examination
- Urine test/swab
- Woman in Germany can be tested once a year for free until the age of 25<<
Prevention:
- Male; female condoms ; dental dams; latex gloves; Limit number of sexual partners & regular STI tests
- Know the status of any sexual partner.
